Top Students Earn Provincial B.C. 4-H Scholarships

Fifteen outstanding members from British Columbia have been awarded 4-H Scholarships totaling over $47,300 to assist in their post-secondary education. To read more, see here.

Brian Hill Memorial 4-H Scholarship

  • Amount of Scholarships: Two $500.00 scholarships annually
  • Entry closing date is April 30th annually. Effective immediately
  • Scholarships may only be won once by the same member; however non-successful applicants may re-apply the following year
  • A 4-H member may apply for the scholarship for two successive years after graduating from grade 12.
  • Applicants must have been active 4-H members for at least two years in British Columbia or have been registered as 4-H members within the last two years.
  • For those scholarship winners unable to enter university or college the year they have been awarded the scholarship, funds will be held in trust by OII for a maximum of one year from the time the award was made.
  • Proof of entry to university or college of the applicant?s choice must be forwarded to the OII office before the scholarship is paid. Payment will be made directly to the school.
  • The scholarship is limited to 4-H members continuing their education in agriculture or a related field.
  • OII- Ownership Identification Inc will administer the scholarship.
  • The scholarship selection committee will be appointed by OII and 4-H
  • The successful applicants will be announced during the BCCA annual general meeting each year.

B.C. 4-H would like to recognize Tegan McArthur from Armstrong and Bhreagh Farquharson from Barriere who each received $500 scholarships for the Brian Hill Memorial scholarship from Ownership Indentification Inc.

Provincial Scholarships Eligibility

Provincial and National 4-H Scholarships ranging in value from $300 to $2000 will be available to British Columbia 4-H members pursuing a post secondary education in the coming school year.

Open to all 4-H members who are completing grade 12 (or have completed grade 12), have not previously received a provincial 4-H scholarship, are planning to enroll in post-secondary education by December 31st annually, have achieved in 2 years within the last 3 years in 4-H and have been registered as a 4-H member within the last 2 years are encouraged to apply.

The application deadline for all Provincial awards is April 15 annually. Unless other indicated, all applicants must complete and return BC 4-H Scholarship Application Form and send all required documents to the B.C. 4-H Office.


BC 4-H Memorial Scholarship

This new provincial 4-H scholarship represents the amalgamation of the Nellie VandenDungen, Bill Alendal and Ralph Barichello provincial 4-H Scholarship trust funds. There will be one $300 scholarship for university, technical or vocational school in any field of study.


BC 4-H Foundation Scholarship

One award of $500 is available for use at university, technical or vocational school in any field of study.


B.C. Youth in Agriculture Foundation Scholarship

Two $2000 scholarships are available for use at university in any field of study.


Mutual Fire Insurance

One $1,000 scholarship for use at university, technical or vocational school in any field of study.

Wim Zylmans Memorial Scholarship

A new scholarship offered by the Vancouver Foundation will be in the amount of at least $500 for use in post secondary agricultural education. Preference will be given to students with a farming background who are entering their second year of studies.

B.C. Youth In Agriculture

The B.C. Youth In Agriculture application is part of the BC 4-H Scholarship Application.

Ian Paton Sr. Memorial Scholarship

One $2000 scholarship will be awarded annually in memory of Ian Paton Sr. and his contribution to the 4-H program in BC. This scholarship will be awarded to a student pursuing post secondary education in Agriculture and who has a background in agriculture. Application deadline is July 31st annually.

BC Association of Agricultural Fairs and Exhibitions

B.C. 4-H would like to recognize Tegan McArthur from Armstrong for being awarded the $1,000.00 B.C. 4-H category scholarship from The BC Association of Agricultural Fairs and Exhibitions.

National Scholarships

Eligibility

Must be 16 years of age by January 1, completed (achieved) two or more years in 4-H, and have been registered as 4-H members within the last five years. Applicants must be entering university, college, technical or vocational school within 4 years of the award. Past B.C. 4-H Provincial Scholarship recipients are eligible to apply.

TD 4-H Agriculture Scholarship

For 4-H members entering their final year of high school in September. A $2,000 scholarship for applicants be planning to study agriculture, agribusiness, or a related discipline in college or university.

Applicants must complete an application form and submit a transcript of their marks for the current school year showing their numerical grade average.

The application deadline is October 23, 2009. Applications are available from the Canadian 4-H Council.
