Top Students Earn Provincial 4-H British Columbia Scholarships


Twenty-one outstanding 4-H members have been awarded scholarships on behalf of the 4-H British Columbia program and its generous partners. The worthy recipients are headed for post-secondary education in disciplines ranging from Agriculture to Nursing, Literature and Fashion. Read more here. 


4-H British Columbia Provincial Scholarships


Provincial and National 4-H Scholarships ranging in value from $500 to $10,000 will be available to 4-H British Columbia members pursuing a post-secondary education in the coming school year.


Open to all 4-H members who are completing grade 12 (or have completed grade 12), have not previously received a provincial 4-H scholarship, are planning to enroll in post-secondary education by December 31st annually, have achieved in 2 years within the last 3 years in 4-H and have been registered as a 4-H member within the last 2 years are encouraged to apply.

 

  4-H British Columbia Foundation Scholarship

Number of Awards: One

Value: $1,000

Application Deadline: April 15 annually 

For use at University, Technical or Vocational School in any field of study.

 

B.C. Youth in Agriculture Foundation Scholarship

Number of Awards: Two

Value: $2,000

Application Deadline: April 15 annually 

For use at University in any field of study.

 

Chernoff Family Foundation Scholarships

  *Two years of studies required

Number of Awards: Three

Value: $5,000

Application Deadline: April 15 annually 

For use in any field of study at any university. This scholarship will be renewed for a second year for a total value of $10,000.

For use in any field of study at trades, technical or diploma courses. This scholarship will be renewed for a second year for a total value of $2,000.

 

Wim Zylman Agriculture Memorial Fund

Number of Awards: One

Value: Minimum of $750

Application Deadline: April 15 annually 

Priority will be given to second year students with a farming background enrolled in an agriculture diploma program at a post-secondary institution.

Annie Zylman Agriculture Memorial Fund

Number of Awards: One

Value: Minimum of $750

Priority will be given to student going into trade or agricultural studies program. 

Western Producer Scholarship

Criteria:

This scholarship(s) shall be for one academic year and may be renewed at the discretion of the Selection Committee upon re-application by the recipient.

MNP Scholarships 

Number of Awards: 2 

Value: $1,000

Application deadline: April 15 annually 

Criteria: The MNP LLP Scholarship will be awarded to a full-time student, entering their third year of study working towards a Bachelor of Commerce Degree .The student will have expressed a strong interest in pursuing an accounting career, with preference to those students that have a declared accounting major. The student must be a 4-H British Columbia Alumni with a minimum of 4 years achievement. 

 

BC Agriculture in the Classroom Foundation Teacher Education Scholarship 

 

Number of Awards: 1

Value: $1,000

Application Deadline: Arpil 15 annually 

Criteria:

  • Two years achieved in the 4-H BC Program.  
  • Has been a 4-H BC member within the last six years.
  • Is enrolled or planning to be enrolled in a universtiy Teacher Education Program in BC.
  • Shows a strong interest in using agriculture to teach their chosen subjects or grade level (s)
  • For use in the post-secondary education training in the field of Teacher Education. 

BC Young Farmers Scholarship

Number of Awards:                One

Value:                                     $500

Application Deadline:             April 15 annually 

Must be enrolling in an agricultural based post-secondary program.

 

Richard Fatt Memorial 4-H Scholarship

Number of Awards:              Two

Value:                                   Maximum of $4000

Application Deadline:           April 15 annually 

Criteria:

  • For use at University, Technical or Vocational School in any field of Agriculture with full time course load annually.
  • Priority to first time applicants in the following order:  (1) South Malahat 4-H members (2) Vancouver Island Region 4-H members (3) all other 4-H District and Region 4-H BC members.


The application deadline for all Provincial awards is April 15 annually. Unless other indicated, all applicants must complete and return

the scholarship application, found in the Opportunites Guide & Applications Publication #129 (Please see Resources/Publications) and send all required documents to the 4-H British Columbia office.

Ian Paton Sr. Memorial Scholarship


One $2000 scholarship will be awarded annually in memory of Ian Paton Sr. and his contribution to the 4-H program in BC. This scholarship will be awarded to a student pursuing post secondary education in Agriculture and who has a background in agriculture. Application deadline is April 15 annually.

 

University of Lethbridge Cor Van Raay Agility Award in Agriculture 


Number of Awards: Five

Value: $1,500

Application deadline: November 1 annually 

Eligibility: Continuing undergraduate students with an interest in agriculture or agribusiness innovation and entrepreneurship must have strong academic standing.

Pereira Entrepreneurship Award

Number of Awards: One

Value: $1,000

Application deadline: January 15th to March 15th annually 

Eligibility: New high school applicants admitted to a Bachelor of Management program and who are involved in entrepreneurial activities (e.g. Jr Achievement, Canadian Youth Business Foundation, Community Futures, 4-H, self-initiated).

National Scholarships

TD 4-H Agriculture Scholarship


Target Audience: 4-H members entering their final year of high school in September of 2016
Value: $2,000

Applicants must be planning to study agriculture, agri-business, or a related discipline in college or university. Applicants must complete an Application Form and submit a transcript of their marks showing numerical grade average for the year (i.e.85%).

Weston Family 4-H Agricultural Scholarships


Westgen Family 4-H Agricultural scholarship program is offered to 4-H members who will be an undergraduate or postgraduate student in an agricultural based certificate, degree, or diploma program at a recognized Canadian post-secondary institution in September 2016.
Successful applicants receive one full year of tuition at their institution in the appropriate program. Applicants may re-apply each year to receive additional funding.

CIBC 4-H Post-Secondary Education Scholarship


Number of Awards: Eight
Value: $1,000
Application Deadline: May 31, 2016

Criteria:

  • Applicants must be a 4-H member in last year of high school or CEGEP
  • Must be a 4-H member planning to pursue a post-secondary education in the field of engineering, arts, science, business or health in September 2016.

Excellence in Ag Program

(Federated Co-operatives Limited)

Number of Awards: Four
Value: $5,000 renewable up to four years
Application deadline: October 15th Annually

Excellence in Ag is a unique, comprehensive program for students offering scholarships (a value of up to $20,000), internships (paid summer employment), and employment opportunities (full-time employment at a retail co-operative with signing bonus).
Criteria:

  • Applicants must be entering or already enrolled in a diploma or degree program in agriculture or business at an accredited post-secondary institution
  • Applicants must maintain a minimum average of 75% in the most recently completed full-time school year
  • Applicants must be a Canadian citizen or have permanent-resident status

Larry Milton Campbell Memorial 4-H Scholarship


(Canadian Meat Council)
Number of Awards: Two
Value: $2,500

Applications Accepted: March 2017 to May 31, 2017

Criteria:

  • Applicants must be at least 16 years of age by January 1st of the current year and a current 4-H member in good standing
  • Applicants must be entering their final year of high school in the current year, have roots in farming and plan to attend a Canadian university in Food Science, Meat Science or Animal Science.
  • All scholarship recipients must use the funds within two years from receipt of the award for attending a Canadian university in an agriculture related discipline. Funding may be used for tuition, books and/or lodging.

Applications must include the following information:

  • Transcript of marks for the past academic year showing their numerical grade average in percentage form (i.e. 85%)
  • A 500-word essay outlining how having roots in farming has made them who they are today
  • Three reference letters from your community, school or 4-H
  • Background on their 4-H and community involvement

Kay Puhallo Memorial Bursary

Value: $500

Criteria:

  • Must be a 4-H member enrolled in a post-secondary education program and will attend the program the same year as they receive the award
  • 4-H member will be in good standing and actively participating with a 4-H Club that attends the Provincial Winter Fair
  • 4-H member will participate in the Provincial Winter Fair in the year the scholarship is awarded

Applications must include the following information:

  • Name, age, years in 4-H, Club(s), projects and achievements
  • Post-Secondary Education Program – currently enrolled
  • Written description of their educational goals
  • Name and phone number of their current 4-H Leader

The bursary will be awarded based on the member’s 4-H achievements as well as their citizenship and leadership qualities. The Puhallo Family will choose the 4-H Members they feel will benefit the most from the bursaries; they will be awarded by September 1st of each year to assist with educational costs. A plaque will be given to the 4-H members at the Provincial Winter Fair banquet to acknowledge the bursary and its recipients.

4-H Canada Leadership Excellence Awards of Distinction (L.E.A.D.)


The Leadership Excellence Awards of Distinction (L.E.A.D.) honour the accomplishments of four special 4-H Canada senior youth members and showcases the outstanding accomplishments of 4-H members across Canada in the area of leadership excellence.


The L.E.A.D. awards recognize outstanding 4-H’ers who epitomize 4-H youth empowerment. We are looking to acknowledge and honour confident, accomplished 4-H’ers who have gained critical life skills through their 4-H experience. The award winners will also demonstrate how they positively impact their community through their 4-H experience.


Four national Youth L.E.A.D. Award Winners will be selected (one four each pillar). Each will receive:

  • A $20,000 scholarship for higher education ($5,000 annually for four years)
  • An all-expense paid trip to attend the 4-H Canada Members Forum
  • Pairing with a mentor in the field in which they were selected
  • A reference letter from their mentor
  • A letter of congratulations from 4-H Canada’s Chief Executive Officer
  • The opportunity to be featured as a 4-H Youth L.E.A.D. Spokesperson

WestGen Education Awards

Criteria:

  • Western Canadian post-secondary students that have completed at least one year of college/university
  • Must be a WestGen member, or son/daughter of a WestGen member
  • Must submit an original, official transcript from a post-secondary institution (faxed & photocopied submissions will not be accepted)
  • Must submit proof of enrolment at a post-secondary institution in the agriculture or veterinary department
